Genesis To Release New Concert Dvd Through Wal-Mart Stores
Genesis will be releasing their new three-disc DVD set, called When
In Rome 2007, exclusively through Wal Mart stores. Phil Collins
explained the impetus behind the project, telling Billboard, "We
thought something like this, which may never happen again, was worth
documenting just in case something good happened."
The free July 14th show was filmed before 500,000 fans at Rome’s
Circus Massimo/ The DVD features the concert as well as a behind-the
scenes documentary called Come Rain Or Shine.
Collins says that the When In Rome DVD showcases a longtime love
affair between the band and their longtime diehard Italian fans: "It
was the last show of the European part band we were going to have a
couple of months off, so in a way it felt like the end of a tour as
opposed to just halfway through. You know, Italy’s been very, very good
to us. It was really important to us in the early ’70s. It was one of
the first countries outside of England to be interested in our music.
We’ve always had a love affair with the country."
Tony Banks says that in addition to being great value for the money,
the DVD shows Genesis at their peak during their last tour, both
onstage and off: "The most important part of it obviously is the live
show. Were playing Rome, Circus Massimo in front of half a million
people, it seemed quite a good one to film. And we were lucky that the
weather was kind to us and everything worked. So, I probably think that
this is the best DVD that we’ve ever done. And the visual show was a
great way of showing off the visuals, and the documentary was just
supposed to give a different feel. People could just see us as we are
as we prepare for a tour."
The DVD will feature such Genesis classics as "Mama," "Ripples,"
"Throwing It All Away," "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," "Invisible Touch,"
"I Can’t Dance," "The Carpet Crawlers," "Turn It On Again," "Land Of
Confusion," "Afterglow," "Home By The Sea," "Follow You, Follow Me,"
"Firth Of Fifth," "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)," and others.
The DVD comes with a 28-page booklet, and features over five hours of content over the two concert discs and documentary DVD.
